The Coming of an Age

Time waits for no king, let alone a man. No matter who you are, what you do, where you go time will keep on moving in a constant way unless of course God intervenes. One is born young and grows old and things happen at different times. That is God’s way of preventing them from happening all at once.

The coming of a new life brings with it a new period of living, working and dreaming. A young child has lots of time before the time of moving on comes. At such a time, one is oblivious of the changing times and everything looks normal and is neglected. There is so much time in the hand and the period is filled with play and all sorts of things that fill time till tomorrow comes.

A little growing up and our minds start to have ideas of what we would like to become at a certain period. We start having a blurred vision of the life we envision, the people we would like to be when we grow up. We start to appreciate the need to commence working towards such a future within a given time frame. We start to see the essence of time and learn to use it well.

More growing up and we come to experience the struggle that other people have with time. The issue of competition comes in and we get to learn that those who are ahead of time remain ahead of the pack. Those who seem to have mustered their time look cool while still there are others who seem to have no mutual consent with their time. We thus endeavor and work strongly towards mustering our time to ensure everything works out at the right time.

A little older and we plunge ourselves deeper into the pursuit of the life we want. The pursuit of knowledge in the form of education, search for a career or careers comes in. During such a time we learn as much as we can but realize that information is greater that we are and we thus cannot exhaust it. We ultimately come to the resolve of learning as much as we can and letting go of what we could not learn.

Some of us realize our dreams earlier than expected, others in the set time while others take longer. A time comes when we realize that we have grown older and a little slower. We find ourselves not catching up with the latest technology and we start seeing a new generation coming in, the music of our days look old just like those of  our parents’. The lovers of technology do all they can to be at par but then a time comes when they have to let go; when doing some new things seem inappropriate or impossible for an older person.

Finally, a time comes when we do an analysis of our life and see what we have achieved. We see the times we had to let go of something because we could not reach it, we see that we might never be who we wanted to be. Some of us become satisfied with the much that we have achieved, and relish their old age while others, keep working to their end, others resort to regrets and blame games. But at such a time nothing more can be done and we have to be bold enough to accept what we are.

The only thing to be done is to work always, everyday to our level best, achieve as much as we can, learn, experience and be the most that we can when we are able so that when we are not that able we can rest assured that we did our level best. Moreover we have to have the courage to let go at the right times; know when to hold on and when to let go for there is time for everything. Look into your life, see where you are, where you are going and the time you have. Do use it well.
